AD VIELLE QUE POURRA
Mosaïque
Green Linnet Xenophile GLCD 4017 (1994)
Third album from the Montreal quartet, drawing on an ever-widening set of
traditional influences. Very European rather than American in feel, strong
Breton influence, lyrics French, one in Occitan, Flemish bagpipe, tarogato,
bombarde, guitar, hurdy-gurdy, a sudden burst of rhythm-section folk-rock
gavotte or flamenco guitar, and vocals that are almost ecclesiastical. More
muscular than ever; this is the sound of a band that's been around but hasn't
become formulaic.
