TARAF DOÏNA BOTOCA
Taraf Doïna Botoca

Label Ouest 306010-2 (2004)

French quartet playing Romanian repertoire from brisk horas to slow doïnas, led by violinist of Romanian origin Marius Andreï. Though the line-up features an unexpected vibraphone along with its two fiddles and double bass, the group sound is less eccentric than that might suggest; its role is largely chordal and rhythmic behind the main texture of well-bowed strings plus guest yearning soprano sax.
