This is an extraordinary recording of Marija, aged 95 when recorded in 2003, who despite a very hard life is still in amazingly fine, energetic voice, singing folksongs and telling of her life and the natural world in the language of the Latvian region of Latgale and also Russian. Even for a non-speaker of these languages, her spirit is so strong and the cadences of her voice so clear that somehow one understands.
