Isakas Nakts Dziesmas (Songs of the Shortest Night)
Platforma PRCD 242 (2009)
Latvia’s leading roots band, fronted by fiddler Ilga Reizniece’s soft lead
vocals, continues to gently evolve its sound of kokles (Baltic zither), pipes,
frets, bass and drums, in some of the many Jani (summer solstice) songs, most
having the mantra-like refrain “ligo”, a verb meaning to celebrate this day of
flower adorned women and fire-making men.
