KANRAN
Kanran
Karappo KRP-0001 (2012)
SATORIYAKKI
Satoriyakki
TradvanceTACD 01 (2012)
Two albums from Japanese player of oud, nyckelharpa, viola d’amore etc player
Tatsushi Toritani.
Kamran is a trio with a female
singer/hurdy-gurdyist and darbuka, doing a strange, sometimes a bit vocally
unsteady but rather appealing blend of trad Japanese and Scandinavian influences
and languages.
Satoriyakki is a pacey trio, playing originals in
often asymmetric-rhythm Arabic and European inspired styles on nyckelharpa,
lute, oud, tanbur and darbuka or tonbak with occasional gamine female vocals
from the percussionist in Japanese or French.
