Estonia: Seto Songs
Ocora C600022 (2008)
Recorded in Setumaa, SE Estonia, between 1936 and 2006, an enlightening and
well-documented collection of the Seto (or Setu) people’s distinctive
rhythm-overlapping songs, hypnotically chant-like with solo call and strident
polyphonic chorus response. Alongside regilaul, Setu song is a key influence in
Estonia’s current roots revival. Ocora, ever-reliable for traditional music, is
distributed by Harmonia Mundi.
